The bus will depart MMP&Q at 7.30am and return about 5.30pm. It is a 20-seater bus so places will be limited. All of the shops have been visited and each offers a different range of fabric and merchandise.

Make your own Winter Jacket
There will be a three day Saturday class to make this ‘fit all sizes’ fully lined jacket. It is made from a Jelly Roll (2 ½”) or strips, or from 5” strips. Gaye Watson will teach the class. As well as patchwork shills there is a jacket pattern-making segment. The cost is $210.
Dates are Saturday 7, 14 and 21 August. The class is limited to 4 people, so book soon.

March 2011 - Very special Japanese Extravaganza Retreat
Susan Briscoe is an award-winning textile artist and designer from the UK. Susan has a particular interest in Japanese Sashiko techniques, quilting and teaches at creative textile workshops.
She will be the International Women’s Day Guest speaker on 8 March, 2011 in Maleny and will then conduct a three day Japanese Extravaganza Retreat from 13 – 16 March, 2011 also in Maleny.
Susan Briscoe is an award-winning textile artist and designer from the UK. Susan has a particular interest in Japanese Sashiko techniques, quilting and teaches at creative textile workshops.

About the Retreat
Susan will lead the two-day Sashiko Course she teaches for the Women’s Institute at Denman College in the UK. The course covers just about everything in making and stitching several different styles of sashiko (hitomezashi and larger moyozashi patterns). You will learn fabric and threads selection together with marking and stitching the pattern. Much is based on the designs in two of her books, Japanese Inspirations Sashiko and The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook, however, there will be lots of scope for individual creativity.
This will be a treat for lovers of modern Japanese quilting and will reveal uses of Eastern and Western techniques to create quilts or other items of extraordinary beauty. You will learn Sashiko stitching, block construction and some of the traditional craft of Japanese country quilting.

MMP&Q Birthday – prizes and giveaways
INVITATION
Being in a small business for 5 years is a real achievement. Somehow we have survived the recession, the downturn, and the economic crises. The shop continues to provide beautiful fabric to inspire quilters and we are there to help with advice and support when needed.
The shop continued success, however, comes from the loyal customers who visit the shop on a regular basis.
Each day in the week 5th to 8th October there will be a fabric giveaway. Fabric packs will contain 5m of a new range of fabric. To be in the daily draw, visit the shop and purchase over $40, then place your receipt in the Birthday Box. The draw will be at 4pm daily.
On Saturday we shall really celebrate our Birthday. The shop will open at 10am until 4pm, with a 10% discount all day with a fabulous prize of a Janome Pink Ribbon Sewing Machine valued at over $400. Again, to be in the draw, visit the shop and place your $40 shop receipt in the Birthday Box.
This will be drawn at 4pm Saturday.
The Party begins at 4pm until 5pm and you are invited to partake of champagne and cake.

UNIFEM – United Nation’s Development Fund for Women
UNIFEM the organization that the shop supports will change its name on 1 January 2011 to UN Women. It will continue to work within the United Nation’s structure, assisting and supporting women in developing countries with education, health, empowerment and equity issues.
Make a Block
Next year 8 March, International Women’s Day, will mark one hundred years since this date was first recognised and celebrated.
To mark the occasion MMP&Q will invite quilters from around Australia to make and donate a block 11” x 11” square finished, made in the women’s colours, purple, green and white, marking this significant occasion. Block should reach MMP&Q by 1 January 1011, so that Quilts can be made and be on display on IWD. Eventually Quilts will be donated to UN Women.

William Morris Wall Hanging
A William Morris Wall Hanging appliqué class will be taught again on Saturday 16 October. MMP&Q has ordered the full range of the new William Morris fabric designs, and hopes to have delivery in October in time for the class. Michele Hill will launch her new book at the Houston Quilt Fair in October. Teacher Judy Carrow from Toowoomba is a friend of Michele Hill and truly understands her technique
