Maleny Magic Patchwork & Quilts was opened in October 2005 by Beverley Perel. It will celebrate its fourth birthday in October 2009. Its primary focus is patchwork material, in bright vibrant colours. The business operates 6 days a week – 10am until 4pm from Tuesday to Saturday and 10am until 2pm on Sunday (closed Mondays) catering to the growing tourism industry in the beautiful Blackall Range area. The shop is situated on the scenic Maleny-Montville Road, just four kilometres from Montville. The shop is popular with day-trippers from Brisbane.
Jan Galligan is the shop’s front face. Jan and Beverley between them offer friendly assistance and support in that often daunting selection of the right colour combinations and accurate requirements for borders and binding.
The shop has one of the best selections of Patchwork and Quilting books, that are always up todate, offering basics for beginners and the latest publications. It stocks all quilting and patchwork essentials, boards, rulers, cutters and the like.
The fabric range is extensive, featuring Kaffe Fassett, Saffron Craig, authentic Japanese fabric, Indigo panels, and a wide selection of Australian Indigenous designs.
Since the shop’s opening, four years ago it has hosts an International Women’s Day lunch every March. The organisation supported in The United Nation’s Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). Speakers have included many of Australia’s best known quilters; Dianne Johnston, Jan Mullen, Margaret Rolfe and Jenny Bowker.
